Writing about Teddy has been one of the hardest things to begin. Teddy was more than just a pet—he was family, a cherished friend, and a source of unconditional love and joy that touched not only our lives but also the hearts of so many in our community. Reflecting on his life and the warmth he brought feels overwhelming, but it’s a step toward honoring the memories he’s left with us all. Every wag of his tail, every quiet cuddle, every student he shared a moment with are pieces of him that remain, and capturing those memories in words feels almost impossible.
We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from everyone who knew Teddy. A heartfelt thank you to the amazing Papakōwhai School and community who dedicated a beautiful plaque and planted a tree in Teddy's honor. This incredible tribute is a place where our Teddy students, whānau and community can go to feel Teddy’s spirit and remember the love he spread so freely. Seeing his memory honored in such a lasting way brings comfort and reminds us of how much he meant to everyone around him. It’s a place we can visit, knowing it holds not only our own memories but the love of many who felt Teddy's gentle nature.
Teddy had an incredible gift for making everyone feel seen and loved, and his presence was a source of calm and joy for all who knew him. This legacy of love and acceptance continues through "Ted’s Space," a tribute to the safe spaces Teddy created for our tamariki, schools, and communities. Through Ted's Space and our amazing pups Willow and Daisy, we will continue to carry forward the warmth and support Teddy embodied, ensuring his impact remains a vital part of our work. As we reflect by the tree planted in his honor, we’re reminded that Teddy’s lessons—of kindness, acceptance, and joy—are woven into the fabric of what we do. His spirit lives on as we create spaces that nurture connection, learning, and well-being, honoring his remarkable gift to us all.
